TRAGEDY: University Final Year student killed with gun by suspected cultists

It was a black Friday night at the University of Benin (UNIBEN), as a 500-level student of the university was reportedly shot dead inside the campus as a result of renewed cult clash between rival cult groups in the institution.

It was reported that three other students who sustained various degree of injury as the results of gun shot during the attack and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Friday evening when the ravaging cult group stormed the Anatomy Department back gate to kill their target and from there proceeded to the Physical Science and Laboratory Departments shortly after the students had finished writing their examination.

that the deceased student was shot at a close range in his car while the three others were shot while they were trying to escape from the gunmen.

The incident caused unrest among the students and staff on campus as they were running for safety.

According to sources, the rival fight began in the Ekiadolor area, a sub of the school, some days ago, during which about three persons were allegedly killed before spreading to the Ugbowo campus of the institution.

The body of a man is seen being removed from a red car with bullet holes, and was deposited at the back of a pick-up van in a viral video of the incident.

The Edo State Police Command’s spokesperson in his statement, Chidi Nwabuzor, claimed he has not been informed of the incident.

He said “I am yet to be briefed of such an incident. When I get the brief, I will let you know, but for now no information.”

It could be recalled that a final year student at the Hall 3 hostel of the university was shot dead a few months ago in his room by gunmen.
