The attention of general public has been drawn to the latest action of Osun State Government, under the leadership of the outgoing Governor Gboyega Oyetola, who recently shrouded itself in series of gaffes by its announcement and subsequent installation of the Alabere of Abere Ede in Ede North Local Government and Oniworu of Woru in Egbedore Local Government.

It was contained in the press release made available by Oladejo Shuaib, Secretary, Osogbo Development Action group ODAG “The land on which the purported Alabere Installation was held belong legally to Osogbo Local Government and not Ede North Local Government. The land was acquired long time ago by the Western Government from the Osogbo people and when disputed it was resolved in favour of Osogbo all along up to the 2006 court judgement”.

The press release that was signed by Lukman Ajani, Coordinator, Osogbo Development Action group futher stated “We believe that the governmemt must be in the know of this bare fact and is only out to play gambles with the intelligence of the Osogbo people which we are going to resist as usual”.

“We recall that the outgoing Governor Gboyega Oyetola was the Chief of Staff to Former Governor Rauf Aregbesola some years back on the eve of a new year when a similar coup/backdoor sinister was planned but botched when it became known that the land is of the Osogbo”.

“In the same vein, the location being referred to as Woru belongs lawfully to Olorunda Local Government, Osogbo and not Egbedore Local Government. All available boundary and population records attest to this fact. We therefore do not understand how government could be misled into this monumental error if not an effort of conspiracy against Osogbo in the scheme of things in Osun State. Therefore, we contend that the installation of Oniworu of Woru in this instance is an illegality that has no basis in law”.

“We are particularly dismayed that the Governor who should be building his profile positively before an average Osogbo person going by his image standing in the recent past could allow himself to be used for fanning ember of discord between Osogbo and its neighbouring communities”.

“This charade and height of illegality will further reecho and then solidify the belief in some quarters that the incumbent Governor is not a lover of Osogbo and in fact, like other moves in the recent past, this is very cunning. Otherwise the Governor should absolve himself from these unacceptable errors by withdrawing the installations and get to the root of the matter”.

We call on all well meaning stakeholders especially the Osun State Council of Traditional Rulers, the Ataoja of Osogbo, the Osogbo Progressive Union, the Osun State House of Assembly, the Osun State Boundary Commission, among others to prevail on the Government of Osun to reverse itself in this illegality without further delay.

We shall not hesitate to take further legal action if this injustice is not addressed satisfactorily within a reasonable period of time.

A stich in time saves nine!
